Adventist Health Portland Volunteers Assemble Kits for Homeless Community

By Terry Johnsson, April 03, 2025

In February 2025, Adventist Health Portland employees who are members of the Volunteer Squad assembled 100 winter kits for individuals experiencing homelessness in Portland. The kits were distributed through Blanchet House, Adventist Health Portland community benefit partner.

Blanchet House is a nonprofit social services organization based in Old Town Portland that is dedicated to making a difference for homeless individuals through food, clothing and supportive housing programs. Through their mission to serve all individuals without judgment, Blanchet House fosters dignity, hope and community for those in need.

Each winter kit assembled by the Volunteer Squad contained emergency blankets, gloves, antibiotic ointment, band-aids, ponchos, snacks and hand warmers — items carefully selected to provide warmth and basic first-aid support to those facing harsh weather conditions. In addition to these necessities, every kit included a heartfelt message encouraging recipients to stay safe.

Through this volunteer effort, Adventist Health Portland reaffirms its commitment to community service and compassionate care. The event reflects the organization’s ongoing dedication to supporting vulnerable populations and strengthening partnerships with impactful nonprofits such as Blanchet House.

By working together, Adventist Health Portland and Blanchet House continue to bring comfort and hope to those in need, one relationship at a time.
