The Alaska Conference executive committee voted to draw conference and church leadership closer and align administration with ministry. Two pastors were appointed to fill the recently vacated position of executive secretary by creating two half-time positions.
Kevin Miller continues to pastor the Northside and The Second Mile churches as he assumes his new role as half-time ministerial vice president. Miller was formerly a pastor and district supervisor in northern Michigan before moving to Alaska in 2008. He and his wife, Paula, a nurse, have three children: Kara, A.J. and Josh.
Quentin Purvis is the new half-time secretariat vice president. Purvis, born and raised in southeast Alaska, recently moved back from the Michigan Conference, where he served as district supervisor for 15 years and was on the executive committee. He was the senior pastor of the Lansing Church when he accepted the call to Alaska. In addition to his conference responsibilities, he assists Miller as the pastor of evangelism for the Northside and The Second Mile churches. Purvis is married to Kim, former Michigan Conference women's ministries director. Kim has accepted the call to teach grades 1–4 at Anchorage (Alaska) Junior Academy. They have two daughters: Kaila and Katie.
