Ladies Prayer Breakfast Builds Fellowship in Delta Junction

By Carol Hawley, June 11, 2026

There are a number of ways a church can reach out to the community. Recently, Delta Junction Adventist Church sponsored Ladies Prayer Breakfast and encouraged women to invite friends. Members were delighted to welcome guests, including two co-workers invited by one church member, giving attendees a chance to meet new people and build friendships.

A welcoming gift table offered books, small notebooks and pens for attendees to take and share with friends. The fellowship hall was warmly decorated with strings of lights around the room and garlands of flowers and soft tea lights on the tables.

After a delicious breakfast, two short devotional talks followed: one presented by Joan Sturgis, Delta Junction Church member, and the other by Elissa Kyle, Delta Junction Church women’s ministry leader. Then came a prayer time with brief, sentence prayers offered as women felt impressed — prayers of praise, petition, confession and thanksgiving.

The church bought fleece fabric to make three tied lap blankets to give to women in town who members felt would appreciate encouragement. With all the cutting done ahead of time, participants divided into three groups and tied the blankets together. They spent time visiting, sharing and praying for the women who would receive the blankets.

The first blanket went to a woman whose first wedding anniversary after her husband’s death fell the day after the breakfast. The second blanket went to a woman recovering from a bad case of COVID-19. The third blanket was given to a woman who had recently lost her husband. Members said they were thankful for the opportunity to visit and pray with the women when they delivered the blankets.
