Several times a year, groups of Upper Columbia Academy students travel to small churches or church plants in Washington, Oregon and Idaho to conduct Sabbath morning church services. Each group consists of a handful of students and an adult sponsor.
This program, called Super Sabbath Outreach, has been going for about two years and has already made a significant impact on the churches UCA students have visited, as well as on the students themselves.
Small churches without many young people are blessed and inspired when students share talents in praising and worshipping God. Scott North, UCA recruiter and Super Sabbath Outreach sponsor, says, "Every church we've visited has expressed how wonderful it is to see young people with so much talent and passion for serving God."
Students conduct the entire service, from special music to song service. The sermon consists of two or three student speakers. Students grow as leaders by planning and leading church services, and students who are less comfortable being up front are given opportunities to develop these skills in a smaller environment. Sara Rose, UCA junior, likes participating in Super Sabbath Outreach because, "it's nice to help them with their church service and share worship ideas while trying something new. I like seeing their commitment."
