Internship Conference Helps Students Explore a Calling in Healthcare

By Kim Strobel, October 12, 2026

Adventist Health interns from across the organization gathered on July 28, 2026 for the 2026 Made for More Internship Conference, a one-day experience designed to help interns explore career possibilities, connect with leaders and discover how their personal purpose can align with meaningful work in healthcare and beyond.

“We want our interns to see all the opportunities available to them at Adventist Health but also to catch a vision for how their personal interests and what they believe God is calling them to do can align with their work,” said Brendan Collins, Adventist Health program manager.

Executives from throughout the system spoke to the group about mission and purpose, leveraging strengths to thrive in the workplace, finance, operations, developing a personal brand and using unique talents to make a difference.

A highlight of the day was lunch with the Adventist Health chief financial officer. In an informal question-and-answer session, interns asked the CFO about everything from work-life balance and career development to the financial outlook of the organization. “It was a relaxed, conversational lunch,” said Collins. “The interns asked great questions and were all super engaged. It was really fun.”

Adventist Health talent acquisition leaders led a workshop offering practical guidance on résumé development, LinkedIn profiles and interview preparation.

“Their presentation was a very approachable, tangible resource for the interns,” Collins said. “Some interns are already looking for that first job out of college, while others want to know what they can do now to prepare for the future.”

The conference was held as interns were nearing completion of their 10-week summer internship experience at locations throughout the system, including Adventist Health headquarters in Roseville, California; Adventist Health Lodi Memorial in Lodi, California; Adventist Health St. Helena in St. Helena, California; and Adventist Health Portland in Portland, Oregon.

Collins said the internship experience and the conference were built to show interns the many opportunities available in the healthcare setting and how students can connect their personal mission to these roles.

“Being part of this process of helping interns find their path is very rewarding,” Collins said. “It’s powerful when young people catch a vision early on for what they can be and become.”
