Last August, during the Brush Up Nampa (Idaho) campaign, a family chosen by the city as deserving of having their house painted, declined the offer since the work was scheduled on Sabbath. City officials contacted Columbus Candies, Nampa Church head elder, regarding the dilemma. The city offered to supply the materials, and men’s ministries accepted the challenge to supply man power.
Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, was set as the date to paint. On Sabbath, Sept. 14, a plea was made for men to come and help. There was also a need for paint sprayers. Mike Dunn donated his sprayer for the cause. Lucky Mason and Val Lorga brought their professional-grade paint sprayers and years of contracting expertise.
The homeowners had pressure-washed the house the week prior, so all was ready when the crew arrived at 9 a.m. Jerry Campbell, Juan Pardo, Jeff Hansen, Tim Hoewing and the members of the owner’s family prepped, masked, touched up and rolled trim. Fueled by fresh cinnamon rolls, cookies and ice water, the men’s ministries crew had the house “shot” by 11:30 a.m. and the last brush cleaned by 2:30 p.m.
The coming together of men, material and equipment for a safe, expedient completion of such a formidable task on a perfect fall day was certainly orchestrated by the Lord. All of the men were so blessed by the heartfelt gratitude of the owner they are considering making this an annual event.
