Adventist Medical Center Opens New Outpatient Center

When Adventist Medical Center (AMC) began looking for growth opportunities, all indicators pointed to Gresham, Ore. This booming community of 90,000 is the fourth largest city in the state and boasts an increasing amount of high-tech development.

The medical center already had a strong presence in the greater Gresham area with five primary care clinics and three physical therapy clinics. But interviews with physicians and community leaders indicated that there was an opportunity for a more regional presence through the development of an outpatient campus anchored by a new imaging center.

Planning, development and construction of Gresham Station culminated with a grand opening in early 2005. Located in a thriving retail district just five miles east of the Portland-based hospital, the all-new, 16,000-square-foot outpatient center features an advanced imaging center and houses relocated and expanded primary care and physical therapy clinics.

Designed with input from both patients and physicians, the center has a number of unique features, including a fully digital environment with a broad range of modalities—MRI, CT, ultrasound, bone density and diagnostic X-ray. In addition, mammography services feature computer-aided detection (CAD), which helps radiologists more accurately detect cancer.

AMC’s Gresham Station also houses a physical therapy clinic, which offers hand therapy and sports medicine. It features special services for women, including post-mastectomy and lymphedema rehabilitation, as well as massage therapy. In addition, the center provides office space for up to five primary care physicians and rotating specialists.

A key goal in developing the new center was providing a positive patient experience. Just outside the front door there is ample free parking. Once inside, patients enjoy a relaxing atmosphere with soothing colors and a beautiful water feature crafted by a local artist. Enclosed registration rooms and special women-only imaging areas promote patient privacy. Pagers are available so patients can browse nearby shops if there is a wait.

“We’re really excited about the possibilities our new outpatient clinic offers, and we’ve been welcomed by the community,” said project lead Monty Knittel, vice president of marketing and business development at AMC. “Gresham is a booming area with convenient Light Rail access and a strong patient base for our hospital.”
