The National Day of Prayer was celebrated May 1 around the nation as well as in Yakima, Wash. Yakima Adventist Christian School (YACS) students, along with public and private students in the Yakima Valley, were invited to participate by each writing an essay, “What Prayer Means to Me.” This year the overall winner was Saul Dominguez, a sixth grader at YACS and member of the Wapato Spanish Company. Saul was invited to participate in the celebration by reading his essay at the Yakima National Day of Prayer gathering at Sarg Hubbard Park.
"Prayer is very important to me. When I pray there are no interruptions, there are just God and I. Prayer is a time I can express my feelings to God and talk to Him. Just talking one on one with God, I feel like He is right next to me and listening to me. The room I’m in fills with God’s love and kindness. I have my personal devotion when I’m on my knees. I’m giving my life to Him everyday when I pray, and I’m honoring Him, too."
This is the second year that YACS has participated in the National Day of Prayer, and this year the school produced the overall essay winner as well as the first place winner in the fifth grade category, Amelia Junt.
