Oregon Conference Celebrates Retirements and Arrivals

By Krissy Barber, July 09, 2026

The Oregon Conference team has recently spent a good deal of time celebrating retirements, welcoming new team members and preparing to bid long-time coworkers farewell.

After more than 40 years of service in three conferences, Steve Hilde retired from his role as Gladstone Adventist Book Center manager at the end of June. We are thankful for his years of service! Karen Carlton accepted the role following Hilde's departure. Carlton came from Amazing Grace Academy in Alaska. We look forward to working with her and are so thankful she was willing to take on the task so shortly before the beginning of camp meeting!

Following Jon Holland’s departure this spring and the subsequent shuffling of staff assignments that took place in the treasury department, Kim Asij Fry accepted the role of Oregon Conference accounts payable clerk. Asij Fry has spent the past five years working for General Conference Auditing Service, auditing conference offices, academies and other denominational entities.

In April, Nate Hellman announced his departure from his role as Oregon Conference ministerial director. He served in Oregon Conference for more than 18 years and is now Eastgate Church pastor in Walla Walla, Washington. We were sad to bid him and his family farewell.

Matt Ballard, Gladstone Park grounds manager, also retired this spring. Ballard served on the grounds team for more than 20 years, bringing a wealth of knowledge to improving camp meeting preparation, repairing and renovating buildings across campus and working hard to make sure the grounds are a place of camp meeting joy for many years to come.

“Ballard has been an invaluable part of our Gladstone Park campus team,” shared Eric Davis, Oregon Conference vice president of finance. “His problem-solving skills, common sense, strong work ethic and knowledge of our Gladstone Park campus made him an extremely valuable part of our team. Most importantly, though, I know Ballard was giving his all for the Lord.”

Sofia Ramos accepted the role of Oregon Conference education department administrative assistant. Most recently at Portland Adventist Elementary School, Ramos is helping schools process their testing, assisting the associate superintendents and working with the department's education financial specialist.

We appreciate each of these contributions to ministry here in Oregon Conference!
