Inside the 30th NPUC Constituency Session

June 16, 2026

Let’s take a quick look behind the scenes of the 30th North Pacific Union constituency session.

How many delegates are involved in the NPUC constituency session?

As this report goes to print, the official delegate list includes 374 names. The actual number present and voting at the Aug. 23, 2026 session may be lower. A delegate must be present to vote. There are no proxy options.

How are delegates selected?

Each conference, regardless of size, is allowed three delegates "at large." In addition, conference executive committees elect one delegate for every 400 members. For example, Idaho Conference, with almost 7,400 members, has three "at large" delegates plus 18 additional delegates based on this formula. A majority of delegates must be lay members without direct ties to church employment. NPUC bylaws also include "ex-officio" delegates representing specific institutions or groups.

Why is the Walla Walla University constituency session held at the same time and place?

WWU’s constituency session uses essentially the same delegate group as NPUC, with the addition of WWU board members who are not already delegates. During the day, the NPUC session will adjourn for the WWU session, then reconvene afterward.

What do delegates actually vote on?

Delegates will vote on executive officers — president, executive secretary and treasurer — along with three vice presidents recommended by the nominating committee. According to the NPUC constitution, departmental directors and associates are selected later by the executive committee in September. Delegates will also vote on executive committee membership for the next five-year term, bylaw changes, and other legal and financial matters.

Is the Aug. 23 session a closed meeting, or can anyone attend?

This is an open meeting and will be live-streamed. To ensure equal representation, only official delegates may participate and vote. Members may still share opinions and concerns with delegates before the session.
