During their regular meeting in College Place, Wash. on Feb. 28, North Pacific Union Conference (NPUC) executive committee members voted to invite Marc Woodson to replace John Loor Jr. (who has retired) as NPUC vice president for administration/executive secretary. This invitation is awaiting a response from Woodson who currently fills a similar role for the Northern California Conference.
The committee also approved the recommendation of the NPUC education department to hire Becky Meharry as director of elementary education and curriculum. Meharry, currently the associate superintendent for Washington Conference schools, will replace Patti Revolinski who is retiring.
Byron Dulan, NPUC vice president for regional affairs, proposed the structure and plan for a new union-wide regional advisory committee to help enhance spiritual and numerical growth among the regional constituency and collaborate with local conferences to support the mission of regional churches. The committee will consist of up to 18 members: the NPUC regional affairs vice president, regional coordinators from every conference where there is an organized regional work, lay representatives from each conference, two-three persons from diverse constituent groups, and one representative each from Walla Walla University, Northwest Adventist African American Local Elders’ Federation, Daughters of Zion, Adventist Education K-12 and Adventist Health. The executive committee approved this proposal.
In other actions, the committee approved the Dec. 31, 2017, financial report, which showed a positive tithe gain and cost-saving measures to allow an increase of more than $600,000 beyond expenses. The final budget for 2018 was also approved, conservatively based on 98 percent of the previous year’s tithe. The budget also reveals that the NPUC will assume approximately $150,000 in additional expenses previously covered by the three larger conferences within the union to subsidize union-employed evangelists.
Executive committee members also approved the ordination of four Northwest pastors: Tye Davis, Jim John, Marco Larumbe and James McCurdy.
