“Joy in the Journey” Themes SAGE Convention For the second year, SAGE members from around the Northwest enjoyed their annual convention in beautiful Hope, British Columbia, with a balanced program of inspirational speakers, animated music and relaxing recreation. One of Adventism’s great storytellers and new assistant to the president for Maranatha Volunteers International, Dick Duerksen, in the roles of Elisha and Malchus, illuminated new insights into their lives. Larry Yeagley, well-known grief recovery author/speaker and father of Washington Conference’s youth director, David Yeagley, gently led the audience through coping skills in meeting the joys and sorrows associated with aging and loss. Jim Burr, astronomer and telescope manufacturer, presented fascinating slide lectures on outer space, as seen through the Hubble telescope. He emphasized the unfathomable vastness of God’s universe and His love for His children living on this tiny speck of a world. John Freedman, Washington Conference president, shared his personal testimony at Friday evening vespers. Gary and Shelley Parks, with their three talented children, led out in lively singing sessions and inspiring music. Reports on this year’s mission trips to Kenya and Ghana prompted members to contribute over $27,000 for next year’s trip to Ecuador.
