Parents, teachers, friends and all those in between poured over the e-mails from Auburn Adventist Academy (AAA) students, sponsors, and campus chaplain, Mark Weir. These e-mails made us laugh, hope, pray, and, most importantly, see the power of God working through His young people. E-mails were sent as often as possible during the 2005 mission trip to Peru. It was during this trip that students and volunteers built a wall of protection around the church property in Eloim, Peru.
The wall was approximately 370 feet long and 10 feet high. The wall that was previously protecting the church property was not sturdy and had been destroyed by people in the surrounding areas that were upset about the church being on the land.
Building the wall was a tremendous feat. However, the construction did not stop there. A new church was built within the walls to hold about 120 people. Pastor Weir commented that it was amazing to see how much interaction the students had with the church family. They were happy to see how grateful the church family was.
Mission trips give students and volunteers the opportunity to experience moments they would not experience otherwise.
For those who did not get the opportunity to join the students on the Peru mission trip, it was a blessing to read the e-mail messages that filled our hearts with the power of service. Now we share the hope and power of doing God’s work with you, and ask that you continue to pray for our students here at AAA.
