CCA Students Hit the Road

The high school staff and students of Cascade Christian Academy (CCA) in Wenatchee, Wash., enjoyed their annual Trip Week, Sept. 5–8. While Trip Week is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn about Washington state history, nature and careers, it is also a time when students grow closer as classmates before embarking on the new school year.

The freshmen class had tons of fun on the trip. Gene Romer, high school history teacher, took them on an historical trip around the state of Washington. Some of the sites they visited were Fort Vancouver, the Temple of Justice and a tour of Olympia, the state’s capital. The students not only learned about the history of the state but also how the state has progressed over the years.

The sophomore biology class journeyed to learn about Washington’s environment and the science behind it. Some of the places Jeremiah Rich, high school science teacher, took the sophomores included Mount St. Helens, Oregon Museum of Science and Industry in Portand, and the Olympic Game Farm. Trista Bais, one of the biology sophomore students, commented, “My favorite part of the trip was visiting Mount St. Helens. It was really interesting getting to learn all about its eruption.”

The juniors and seniors combined to go on a leadership, career and management exploration trip to Portland, Ore. This kind of opportunity shows students who are about to graduate and head off to college the types of careers available to pursue within a variety of businesses and organizations — some for-profit, others nonprofit. They were able to see firsthand what is going on in local businesses and get an idea of how they’re run and what it took the owners of those businesses to get to where they are today. The students were able to visit Adventist Medical Center, ESCO, Providence Portland Medical Center, Mercy Corps, the Caravan Tiny House Hotel and LRS Architecture.

Overall Trip Week was a huge success again this year at CCA. The students came back to school having learned a lot, as well as having grown closer together with their classmates.

The juniors are already looking forward to next year’s trip to Seattle.
