Mount Ellis Adventisty Elementary in Bozeman, Mont., took an all-school field trip to Helena, Mont., on Oct. 10, 2019. During the first part of our trip, we split into two different groups to accommodate the varied age levels. Pre-K through second grade students visited the Montana Historical Society Museum while the third through eighth graders toured the capitol.
At the Montana Historical Society Museum, the students saw how Native Americans lived and survived in Montana. They also saw what life was like for the early European settlers in Montana and compared their experiences to our technology today. The tour ended with a touch and play area where students played in a pretend kitchen, tried on old-time shoes and rode on wooden horses.
The students who toured the capitol saw its dome, where the house and the senate meet and some artwork. The highlight of their morning was a private tour of the governor’s office.
Next, we drove to the Helena Church to have lunch. Originally, we had planned to have lunch at Memorial Park and play outside. Due to cold and snowy weather, we realized we would need to find a warmer place to eat our lunches. We were so thankful to have John Witcombe, Helena Church pastor, host us in the fellowship hall and even arrive a few minutes early to turn on the heat. We greatly appreciated his hospitality.
Last, we visited the Montana Science Museum, where students were able to explore, create and have fun. The director put on a science experiment for the students about nanoscience. Students learned why scientist are interested in studying very tiny things.
We were so thankful for clear roads and awesome chaperones joining us for a fun-filled day.
