WWU Students Take Top Film Awards

By David Bullock, April 04, 2016

Walla Walla University (WWU) students took top awards for a second year in a row at SONscreen Film Festival 2016 on March 31–April 2, 2016.

Grant Perdew, international communications graduate, won Best in Festival for his film The Exquisite Outdoors. This film also won top prize in the Best Dramatic Short category. Erik Edstrom, industrial design graduate, won Best Cinematography for that same film.

Edstrom and Jesse Churchill, a theology graduate, took the festival’s top award in 2015 for their film titled The Way.

Seven Walla Walla University students attended the three-day festival in Washington, D.C. WWU drama professor David Crawford said of the event, “I was impressed by the collaborative spirit of the conference, and by the graciousness of everyone participating.”

The SONscreen Film Festival is an annual event for young Christian adults who have a desire to use film to make creative productions for social awareness, outreach, and entertainment. The festival started in 2002 and since then has become a common stop for established and up-and-coming Christian filmmakers where they can share their creative work, gain exposure, and network.
