UCA Surprised by Friendship Tournament

Walla Walla University has an annual Friendship Tournament that provides the opportunity for different Adventist academy basketball teams to come and play each other. Held in several gyms in the area, the three-day event is a highlight for basketball fans.

Both guys’ and girls’ varsity basketball teams from Upper Columbia Academy (UCA) in Spangle, Wash., participated in the tournament held this past January. The guys finished in fifth place, and the girls finished in first place. As you can imagine, the girls were excited about their finish, but the look on their faces when they were chosen for the Sportsmanship Award was priceless. It was affirmation that the way they respected each other and the game was far beyond a win.

“I am pleased with the accomplishments of our teams,” says John Winslow, UCA principal. “But I am most pleased that the teams played in a Christ-like manner.”
