Sabbath afternoon, Dec. 14, 2013, found hundreds of people eagerly gathered in the sanctuary of Kirkland Church to enjoy yet another of Estyn Goss’ touching and delightful Christmas concerts. Goss shares his incredible gift of music and the musical abilities he helps to cultivate in students and adults through music lessons and performances at Puget Sound Adventist Academy. This year was no exception.
The major work of the concert was Max Lucado’s One Incredible Moment, with music crafted by Tom Fettke to illuminate people and events leading to Christ’s birth. The main choir, consisting of church members and the Ladies of Impact from Puget Sound Adventist Academy, sang the major portion, with soloists throughout.
Matt Segebartt, Kirkland Church associate pastor, was a soloist (Joseph), along with Gladys Cruz, Jasmine Cruz (Mary) and Jeff Neuharth (Simeon). Other soloists included Sherri Sanker and Teresa Chadwick. Spoken words were presented by narrator and "wise man" Craig Cummings, as well as Jasmine Cruz, Matthew Meeks (also as Joseph), Alex Tichy (also as Simeon) and Jeff Leggott (a shepherd).
In addition to church and school musicians, the concert featured musicians from the Everett Symphony Orchestra, which added to the fullness of the sound and presentation.
The school and church community appreciates Goss' devotion to enriching PSAA's vocal music department. He has a long history of teaching music to students and selecting music that is well-done, unique and interesting. His vision and devotion is much appreciated by the musicians and audience.
A reception in the church fellowship hall followed the concert. Juliette Church was the manager and coordinator of this festive event, with many volunteers assisting in preparation and presentation. The concert provided a way to extend the beauty of music while encouraging fellowship within the church community.
Estyn Goss helps cultivate an appreciation in the Kirkland community for beautiful music. He conducts concerts throughout the year, including a special concert during the Christmas holidays.
