The 20th anniversary of Montana women's ministries was celebrated Oct. 7–9 at Fairmont (Mont.) Hot Springs Resort. Great excitement buzzed as women from across Montana arrived and greeted their friends, prayer partners and sisters in Christ. Some attendees even came from Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Georgia and Norway.
A special tribute was given to the women who helped get Montana ministries begin. These included: Alice Jenks, from Washington; June Anderson, from Bozeman, Mont. Other special women who helped, but could not be there were Seidi Albertsen, Gloria Parks and Molly Cypher.
The spirit-filled weekend featured Lynn Ortel, Northern New England Conference women's and family ministries director, who shared with attendees how to make God more real and relevant in their lives. Ortel hoped the women will take another step (or maybe a leap!) in trusting Him because their hope is in Him.
The women tied 102 colorful fleece blankets for the children of eastern Montana's Fort Peck Indian Reservation as this year's mission project. Women gathered in the resort's meeting room and completed the blankets in less than two hours while sharing together what is happening in their churches, such as helping others, feeding the homeless and distributing clothing. They also brainstormed about what kinds of other things they could possibly take back to their churches and work on together.
One of the highlights of the weekend was the special communion service that closed the Sabbath. The participants experienced the depth of their Lord's love for them individually, as they crushed roses under their heels and took the petals to the foot of the cross, where they shared testimonies of what the Lord's dying on the cross meant and expressing how thankful they were to Him.
The women enjoyed the beautiful surroundings of the snow-capped mountains outside the resort as they walked around and thoroughly enjoyed the indoor and outdoor hot-spring pools that soothed and relaxed their bodies.
This year's retreat, scheduled for October, will feature Carla Baker, General Conference women's ministries director.
