Skagit Adventist Academy in Burlington, Wash., recently held a community dinner for the Skagit County Community Action Agency. More than 90 people from the community attended.
Students helped with all aspects of planning, including giving money for gift cards, finding wrapping paper donations, making food arrangements, planning activities and games, lining up music, and more.
The community holiday party had a great impact on students. "I enjoyed meeting new people and cooking for them," says Nathan Habenicht, freshman.
Laurel Fritz, freshman, says, "I loved playing music and seeing the joy it brought people."
After dinner, Doug White, SAA principal, and Matt Lee, SAA physical education teacher, along with some high-school students, lead out in games. Children took turns running underneath an enormous parachute and later popping candy kisses into the air and scurrying to find the treats.
"Watching kids who were very shy open up and have fun was smile-making," says Kari Stickle, freshman.
At the end of the evening, children received a treat bag with holiday treats, assembled by the Primary Sabbath School class at North Cascade Church.
Rachel Brink, SAA associated student body president, summed up the evening by saying, "ASB officers, sponsors and students put a lot of time into planning, cooking, and decorating, so I'm extremely glad that it turned out so well."
