For past and current members of the Gladstone Park (Ore.) Church, Crater Lake National Park has been a place where they vacation together. Members met together this Aug. 5–15.
Park rangers explained the wonders of the park and showed films at the Steel Visitor Center and exhibits at the Sinnott Memorial Overlook. The park profile includes the deepest U.S. lake at 1,943 feet, annual snowfall at 44 feet and 500,000 visitors in 2009.
Liz Palumbo, current Gladstone Park Church member and earliteen leader, says, "I've gone to Crater Lake 10 years. We love to hike and bike around the lake. It's a quiet, peaceful, scenic place, when I am out in nature like that. The company of like friends is so wonderful. We eat together on Sabbath and hike and bike together throughout the week. Kayaking on the lake is one of the highlights. Experiencing a severe thundertorm while standing at the Crater rim is exhilarating. I can feel God's power at times like that."
Rocelia Holmes, Sabbath School pianist, says, "My husband Dennis and I and children rent a cabin at Cloudcap Overlook which is about five miles outside of Crater Lake. It's so gorgeous down there at the lake. We try to do something different every year. It's God's country. We like taking a boat ride in the crater."
