Two Gem State Adventist Academy students, Jacque Giem, 17, of Meridian, Idaho, and Richard Robinson, 17, of Boise, Idaho, are among 90 students in the state cited for outstanding scores on the PSAT academic ability exam.
During the past five years, five Gem State students have achieved semifinalist status; two went on to become finalists.
From more than 1.3 million juniors who take the PSAT qualifying test, only 16,000 advance to the semifinals, representing less than one percent of US high school seniors.
Giem is the daughter of Ross and Jodi Giem of Meridian; Robinson is the son of Marla Gothard of Boise and Richard Robinson of Ashville, N.C.
A four-year Gem State Academy senior, Giem is a day student who moved to Idaho five years ago from South Dakota. She enjoys backpacking, snowboarding, varsity volleyball, Pathfinders, church activities, and her work at 89.5 FM KTSY, a campus Christian radio station. She is considering attending an Adventist university and becoming a school counselor.
Robinson, also a senior, was born and has lived all of his life in Boise. He enjoys football, reading, games, and music and works on campus as a facilities assistant. He plays basketball for the Gem State Jaguars and is involved with the drama team. His plans call for college and travel abroad. •
