Alden Thompson is Professor Emeritus of Biblical Studies at Walla Walla University where he taught from 1970 to 2020. Well-known as a speaker and author, his articles have appeared in Adventist Review, Ministry, Signs of the Times, Spectrum, and Adventist Today.
His books include Who's Afraid of the Old Testament God? (1988, 1989, 2003, 2011) written for the larger Christian world, and those written more specifically for Adventists: Inspiration: Hard Questions, Honest Answers (Review and Herald, 1991) and Escape from the Flames: How Ellen White grew from fear to joy and helped me do it too (Pacific Press, 2005); and Beyond Common Ground: Why Liberals and Conservatives Need Each Other (Pacific Press, 2009).
In 2016, Energion published a 25th anniversary edition of Inspiration which includes a bridge chapter for the non-Adventist reader. He likes reading, travel with his wife Wanda, gardening, and playing racquetball.
