Linda Emmerson, Walla Walla College (WWC) philosophy instructor, was honored with the 2003 Exchangite of the Year award from the Exchange Club of Walla Walla. The award is given to members who give outstanding service over a period of years and show leadership in the club, which works to make the community a better place through programs of service, with primary national focus on the prevention of child abuse.
Emmerson has filled many leadership roles in the club, including vice president in charge of programs, vice president of membership, sales chairman and 2000 president. She is currently on the board of directors for the club’s Parent Aid Center, newly formed in conjunction with Children’s Home Society to help at-risk youth.
This is not Emmerson's first service award. The Exchange Club named Emmerson "Rookie of the Year" in 1995, which is the highest honor for a new club member. She was given a community service award by WWC in 1997 for her dedication in serving her church and community. Emmerson organized the college’s centennial activities and, in 1992, she organized the first all-college service day, now a WWC tradition. On this day, students, staff and faculty volunteer their time for community service projects.
