SAXON — Virginia Marie (Nichol), 96; born Nov. 27, 1920, San Jose, Calif.; died Jan. 4, 2017, Newberg, Ore. Surviving: son, James N. Saxon, Astoria, Ore.; sons and daughters-in-law, Lawrence and Mary Saxon, Ooltewah, Tenn.; David and Reece Saxon, Dickinson, N.D.; daughter, June Longway, Hillsboro, Ore.; 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Virginia was born to Francis David and Rose (Macklin) Nichol. When she was a young girl, the family moved to Takoma Park, M.D., where her father served as editor of the then Review and Herald from 1945 till his death in 1966.

Virginia worked as a Medical Technician following her graduation from La Sierra College. She met her husband, Jackson Allen Saxon, while working at the White Memorial Hospital in LA. She helped put Jack through medical school. They had a 65 year marriage before Jack died in 2000. Through the years, both Virginia and Jack were active volunteers in the Adventist Church — giving health talks, leading vegetarian cooking classes and running Stop Smoking programs.
