Gladstone Park Church presented a Vacation Bible School program, What Happened to Joseph From Prison to Pharaoh’s Palace, June 20–25.
When the kids registered, they were assigned to one of five Egyptian groups. As kids arrived each day, they gathered at the "family" blanket for a few moments before going into the pyramid for the opening celebration.
After learning some songs and the Bible verse and Bible point for the day, the families headed back to their blankets to discuss the Bible point and review their schedule for the day.
Families would then rotate through the daily Joseph drama presentation, fun and games, and the marketplace's snacks and crafts. Following rotations, the families would gather back to their blankets for more learning and solidifying of the Bible point. Finally, all the families gathered in the pyramid for closing celebration, reiterating the Bible point and singing.
Forty-seven kids, ages 6–11, arrived the first day, and most of them returned each day for the rest of the week.
A total of 32 staff made this VBS possible. The staff ranged in ages from 13 to 70 and came from three different churches: Gladstone Park, Tabernacle in Portland and Ohana in Canby.
“God blessed the VBS with an amazing group of volunteers. The kids had a fantastic time and learned about Joseph and the one true God. I learned to trust God, and He will provide what we need," says Renee Huey, VBS coordinator.
“Brady wants to come next year,” says his mother, Sonja Thomas.
