Anchorage Women Reach Out to Elderly

By Loren Mangena, February 08, 2017

There are many ways we can reach out to make a difference in the lives of others. During December, Anchorage Community Seventh-day Adventist Church women’s ministries seized the opportunity to be involved in their local community by becoming the eyes, heart and feet of Jesus outside the walls of their church.

I will continue to praise God for the amazing women that are part of the Anchorage Community Seventh-day Adventist Church family. I praise God for the connections that are being created as they took the time out of their busy schedules to visit with the elderly at Prestige Nursing Home.

This has become a monthly event for the women. Every fourth Saturday of each month, the ladies spend at least one hour with the residents at the Prestige Nursing Home, fellowshipping and praying with the residents.

On Christmas Eve, the women did not go empty-handed. They brought with them 48 pairs of stockings filled with special gifts, including Scripture inserts, which they distributed to the residents. With the help of the church choir, the ladies sang Christmas carols to the residents to cheer them. This was a memorable time for the residents, as evidenced by some saying how grateful they were for the monthly visits.
