Port Orchard Holds CHIP Seminar

The Port Orchard Church, under the leadership of Virlyn Dodge and Vicki Mathison, conducted a Coronary Health Improvement Project seminar at the church’s fellowship hall with 16 sessions over seven consecutive weeks, beginning on Feb. 7, 2011. The CHIP seminar drew 20 participants from both the church and the community. The seminar featured a series of Video lectures by Dr. Hans Diehl, Lifestyle Medicine Institute director, followed by small discussion groups to encourage each other, exercise progress reports, and time to sample various foods. A CHIP cookbook was given to each participant

Health screenings were done at the beginning and ending of the series, followed by a beautifully presented heart-healthy breakfast featuring elegantly decorated tables. Many local church members assisted with preparing food, hosting tables, setting up and cleaning up.

Graduation was held on March 28, 2011 celebrating each participant’s progress with the Heartscreen results, a diploma and a special meal. Many said that they were very pleased with the positive improvements to their lives and their health. A special feature was when Dr. Diehl spoke via phone to the group.

Meetings for alumni are continuing the first Monday of each month to discuss items such as: how to modify an existing recipe, holiday cooking and eating ideas when eating out, etc.
