Skagit Students Fundraise for a Cause

Over a five-day period, the K–12 students at Skagit Adventist School and Academy brought in their pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters and dollars for the South Africa Weekend Feeding Program in an effort to raise $1,500.

The funds raised help provide weekend food supplies, hot meals, soap and candles to children orphaned by the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

"When I saw the video, I wondered how they could live like that," says Jenna Rodriguez, whose sixth-grade class raised over $464. "It was cool to know we could help them get food by sharing our money."

The total raised by all classes was $1,500 even, and students were rewarded with the blessing that comes with following God's call to reach out to others.

"It was really fun the way we did it," says student Audrey Dawson. "I felt like I could do something to help kids who are just like me."
