Lewistown Juniors and Teens Raise Money to Aid India

Junior and teen members of the Lewistown Church held a fundraiser this past year to help the Adventist Development and Relief Agency. The class of five arranged for a spaghetti dinner, complete with appetizers and fruit dessert. Most of the youth had no formal training in serving, however, with a few pointers, they created a warm, inviting atmosphere for guests. As guests arrived they were escorted to tables with appetizers. During the evening, an informative DVD told about ADRA and its work. Participants say the evening was a great success and these 10- to 14-year-olds and their teachers helped in a big way.

With the money raised, the group chose to purchase a sewing machine for a hearing-impaired woman in India. There are an estimated 50 million hearing-impaired people in India, who live in extreme poverty due to discrimination, illiteracy and unemployment. Many are left without life's basics, including food and medical care. The funds raised will provide one woman with one year of vocational training, a sewing machine and supplies to start her own business.
