As a participating station in the Federal Emergency Broadcast System, KACS, Adventist-owned and operated Chehalis, Wash. radio station was the only local station which consistently stayed on the air during the December 2007 floods in Lewis, Thurston, Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties. The station gave emergency services information every quarter hour during the three days it took the flood to crest and recede. The station coordinated reports from the Sheriff's Department, National Weather Service, National Geological Survey, FEMA, State Patrol and Search & Rescue Teams. KACS also immediately launched the Cards for the Counties emergency relief campaign coordinating with the Lewis County United Way, American Red Cross and Salvation Army. General Manager Cameron Beierle says over $10,000 in merchant gift cards was raised by the end of December.
