The year’s first week of prayer at Oregon's newest academy, Livingstone Adventist Academy (LAA), inspired students with stories of mission work. Each day staff members told of their mission experiences all over the world—from Idaho to Guatemala to Thailand.
The week of prayer, organized by Don Mansell, LAA chaplain, centered on Jesus’ great commission of Matthew 28:19, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” During the week, students and staff at the Salem school were encouraged to put stickers on a world map, indicating places they’d visited as missionaries.
“Many of us (faculty) have had the experience of going and serving others, abroad and/or at home, and we want to give our students an opportunity to have the experiences too,” said Mansell.
The senior class plans to go on their class trip in May—a week-long mission trip to Puerto Rico. Sixteen students also went to the All Nations Center in Wapato, Wash., on a service trip in March.
“Our goal is to have Livingstone reach out to the community and the world at large,” says Mansell.
