Grangeville Church Celebrates Debt-Free Sanctuary Dedication

By Stefanie C. Brimacomb, October 09, 2026

After nearly 30 years of prayer, sacrifice, volunteer labor and unwavering faith, Grangeville Church celebrated the dedication of its new sanctuary on June 6, 2026. Built completely debt-free, the project stands as a testament to God's leadership and the dedication of a congregation of approximately 75 members.

"I thank the good people of Grangeville Church, the Maranatha volunteers and many others without whom it wouldn't have happened," said Steve Rogers, pastor. "Most of all, I thank God that He blessed Grangeville with a beautiful sanctuary in which to worship Him and to spread the good news of a risen and coming Savior. Praise God."

The congregation expressed deep gratitude to Maranatha Volunteers International, whose assistance was instrumental in making the project possible. Throughout the project, church members, Maranatha volunteers, local contractors and friends from neighboring churches contributed countless hours of labor, demonstrating the power of God's people working together toward a common mission.

Members also fondly remembered Dorothy Bietia, now-deceased member, whose vision for Grangeville Church was born with the purchase of a new property in 1995. The congregation was only able to build a fellowship hall after acquiring the land, so for the last three decades members had met in the fellowship hall.

Ground for the sanctuary addition was broken on July 17, 2023, beginning a journey that would require countless hours of labor, generous financial support and steadfast commitment from church members and volunteers.

Members and guests from churches throughout the district gathered for the dedication service on June 6, 2026, which was filled with music, praise, thanksgiving and messages of spiritual encouragement. Rogers, along with local church elders and Eric Brown, Upper Columbia Conference vice president for administration, reminded attendees of the church's sacred mission to share the gospel, make disciples and reach their community and the world through personal ministry and digital outreach.

"My wife and I came in and saw pews covered in plastic and stacked to the rafters down the center aisle," said Brown, recalling his first visit to the sanctuary just months before leading an October evangelistic series. "The drywall wasn't even up, and I thought, 'No way.’ But with God, everything is possible, and we opened the sanctuary for those meetings right on time."

The dedication service culminated in a moving moment as attendees joined hands and formed a circle around the sanctuary. Together, they offered a prayer of dedication, asking for God's blessing upon the building, the ministries that will take place within its walls and the lives that will be touched through its influence. They also prayed for the presence of the Holy Spirit and God's holy angels to guide, protect and empower the church's mission for years to come.

While the completion of the sanctuary marks the end of a construction project, church members view it as the beginning of a new chapter of ministry. Dedicated debt-free and built through faith, service and cooperation, the new sanctuary stands ready to serve as a beacon of hope and a center for sharing God's love with the surrounding communities.

The Grangeville Church sanctuary is made possible through countless hours of volunteer labor and member support.
