Brookings Serves Up Tasty

By Misti Bischoff, July 17, 2022

What do you call a hall filled with cooks serving samples of tasty dishes?

A Food Fair!

In May, on Oregon’s southernmost coast, the Health Ministry team of the Brookings church hosted a “Fresh Mex Plant-based Food Fair.”

With the pandemic easing and gathering restrictions lifted, about 80 church and community members were pleased to come out for food and social connecting.

On the menu were healthful foods like hearty beans, tasty tamales, fresh slaws, colorful salsas, infused waters, a sweet chili chocolate pie and much more. Guests had the opportunity to ask questions of cooks and pick up recipes of each food.

One couple was especially delighted when their names were picked from a drawing. The husband won a cookbook and the wife a local grocery store gift certificate.

Many attendees signed up for notification of future events, and picked up free literature promoting a plant-based diet and healthful lifestyle tips.
