Sharon’s Mother’s Day Drive By

By Linda Foxworth, Linda Foxworth, June 11, 2020

Mother's Day has always been a special day at Sharon Church as the church celebrates mothers in unique ways. Last year, men’s ministry wore tuxes and hosted a reception with delicious treats along with sparkling cider served in crystal flutes.

This year, with COVID-19 restrictions, members became creative and still made moms feel special. The men filled 100 gift bags, each with a a pen/flashlight inscribed with “Blessed is the woman who lights the way" and "Happy Mother’s Day," a manicure kit (since salons are closed), a mini pecan or apple pie, chocolates, an orange, and a gift card.

The bags were prepared Friday. Sabbath morning at different times, the men picked up bags with assigned delivery areas and the mothers' names. They delivered bags from Hillsboro, Oregon, to Washougal, Washington, and everywhere in between. The men followed safety guidelines to include social distancing when delivering the gift bags. They left the bag at the door, rang the doorbell and waved from a safe distance while saying, "Happy Mother's Day!"

The mothers were surprised and excited. They expressed their thankfulness in text messages. A message from a member who hasn't been able to attend for over a year wrote, “Thank you so much for thinking about me. It really means the world to us that I am still part of the Sharon Family. Thank you!!!”

Another wrote, “Oh what a wonderful blessing from my church. Thank you sooo much. Only Sharon would be so thoughtful.”

A mother who received her bag on Sunday wrote, “Wow, you took the time to track me down at work. That is so sweet of you all. Thank you again.”

Thanks to the men of Sharon Church for making Mother's Day 2020 special by showing the love of Jesus during uncertain and difficult times.
