These comments reflect what many experienced over Memorial Day Weekend at the Northwest Singles Spiritual Retreat at Camp MiVoden. Participants came from six states, and from British Columbia and Alberta, Canada.
This year’s speaker was Kevin Wilfley, Linwood Church pastor from Spokane, Wash. The topic for the weekend was “The Power of Returning... to the Word, Prayer, Your Blessing, Your Dream, and to Service.” Wilfley had the participants eagerly opening up their Bibles. The time in studying God’s word, along with group and personal prayer time, resulted in a spiritual revival.
Greg and Kathy Garvin met as singles at the MiVoden Memorial Weekend Retreat five years ago. Now married, they returned for the fourth year to share their ministry of music.
Wayne Hicks, Upper Columbia Conference family ministries and Adventist Single Adult Ministries (ASAM) director, along with his wife Jeri, led the prayer times. They shared how God had recently answered their prayers by healing Wayne, who was recently diagnosed with cancer. The testimonies of prayer and staying ever so close to God in time of trials and discouragement were inspiring.
The weekend was full of activities for the single adults to meet and make new friends. A special Hawaiian banquet was held Saturday night, ending with a candlelight vespers. Sunday, a group of 30 went on a cruise around Lake Couer d'Alene.
