First Health-focused Mission Trip Leads to Online Nursing Class

The Walla Walla College School of Nursing is offered an online nursing class last quarter, a first for the college. Professors Trudy Klein and Sallieann Brewer taught the elective missions nursing classes to nine students on both the College Place and Portland campuses.

Lucille Krull, School of Nursing dean, says the online class was developed out of the need to prepare nursing students on both campuses for a mission trip to Jamaica, set for July 12–31.

“The online class focused on transcultural nursing, as well as providing information on Jamaican health problems and needs, and the Jamaican health care system,” Krull explained. “We’re very excited about the online class and the opportunity this mission trip will provide.”

The evangelistic trip, organized by Pedrito Maynard-Reid, WWC vice president for spiritual life and mission, is themed “Hope, Health and Happiness.” Students will work with a Jamaican health care professional to provide health screening and teaching in the community. They will also assist with the health evangelistic meetings and stay with local Jamaican Adventist families during the trip.
