"Back Light,” a drawing by Martha Mason, professor of art at Walla Walla College, was recently one of 40 drawings selected from 300 submitted to the 10th biennial “Border to Border” National Drawing Competition at Austin Peay State University (APSU) in Clarksville, Tenn.
All 40 chosen drawings will become part of APSU’s permanent collection.The drawings, submitted from all over the country, went on display in APSU's Trahern Gallery in February.
"It is very rewarding to be included in the show," says Mason. "This show is supportive of many types of art, but still places emphasis on the traditions of drawing, which I much appreciate."
Mason’s drawing, depicting floating objects, was done in pastel and wash.
Mason is a gallery artist at the Broderick Gallery in Portland, Ore., where she recently had a show. She is currently painting a mural for the Pasco Ephesus Seventh-day Adventist Church in Pasco, Wash. She is also finishing a commissioned series for a new shop in Walla Walla. Up next is a new figurative series of drawings and paintings, which she would like to show as a group.
Mason has worked in the art department at Walla Walla College since 1995.
