Jumpstart to Fitness 5K Salmon Run 2004

Jumpstart to Fitness 5K Salmon Run 2004 The All Nations Center hosted its second annual 5K “Salmon Run” on Sept. 19. Among this year’s 32 entries were a 7-year old, a 75-year old, and one bicyclist. The participants were grouped into three categories: “Small Fry”—up to age15, “Medium Fry”—ages 16–35, and “Large Fry," for everyone over 35. The fun run began in 2003 as a way to emphasize lifelong fitness and wellness in our community. Each year, the Salmon Run is the first time some runners have walked or jogged more than a mile or two at a time. It’s always exciting to see the sense of pride they have when they finish the run. It feels good to accomplish something that is challenging and good for their health. Bonnie Wibberding coordinated the volunteers, who helped with registration, handed out T-shirts, recorded times, served refreshments, manned water stations, and helped with clean-up. Mel Weaver, of Johnny’s Clothing, created the beautiful T-shirts; Phil Winterholler and Wapato Les Schwab assisted with the cost of the shirts. It was day for everyone to have fun–and get healthy, too!
