The hills were definitely filled with the sound of music when a cast and crew of more than 30 Columbia Adventist Academy (CAA) students performed and produced The Sound of Music in May. The three sold-out performances were held at Vancouver’s Columbia Arts Center, which is privately owned by a software company.
The cast, which included four students from Meadow Glade Adventist School, began rehearsing in early March and led out in designing and building the set, managing the stage and props, and learning more than 200 pages of lines and music.
Cast member Shannon Gibb had dual roles playing Frau Zeller and helping to coordinate the stage props. “I really liked working backstage and making the whole thing look real,” Gibb said.
One of the many benefits of working on a musical “was that I got to act with such a big group [of actors],” said Jessy Spreadborough, who was cast as Louisa von Trapp.
Amy Deming, an English teacher in the community, volunteered to direct the production and set "For His Glory" as its theme. She said it was very important to her that the “cast feel like it was a professional acting experience, one which was more than just fun, but actually brought glory to God.”
