Goldendale Awards Scholarships to 12th Graders

Goldendale (Wash.) Church awards $200 scholarships to its graduating seniors in a special presentation. Ron Turner, director of recruitment from Upper Columbia Academy (UCA), was the guest speaker and explained why Christian education is so important.

Sterling Bravo who lives in Roosevelt, Wash., and attends Bickleton High School, will be enlisting in the Air Force. Sterling lives among the cherry trees in Roosevelt and has worked in the orchards since he could reach the lower branches of the trees. His father is a foreman for the cherry orchards owner and his mother holds Bible story sessions and Vacation Bible Schools for the neighborhood children.

Lori Froehlich, who lives in Goldendale and attends Goldendale High School, is an Honor Society member, with a straight A student who will be attending Walla Walla College and received $3250.00 scholarship from Walla Walla. Lori’s mother holds a master’s degree in social services and works with disturbed children. Lori’s father, laid off from the aluminum plant is learning to be an electrician at Perry’s in Yakima.

Courtney Bridgefarmer, who also attends Goldendale High School and has worked at odd jobs all through high school, is uncertain what she will be doing. Courtney’s father works in White Salmon for the county road department and her mother works as a culinary worker for the hospital there.

Leah Winkler, who attends Walla Walla Valley Academy, and Walla Walla Community College, and has worked at Andy’s Market in College Place, Wash., will be pursuing a nursing career. Leah’s father is a nurse and her mother is a real estate agent in Walla Walla.

Amy Schwitzgoebel, who attends Upper Columbia Academy, and also a straight A student, wants to attend Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, Tenn. She recently toured the Southern campus and was favorable impressed. Her father is the head of the laboratory at Klickitat Valley Hospital. Her mother works with insurance there also.

Goldendale is very proud of its youth!
