Walla Walla College Among "America's Best Colleges 2003"

For the second year in a row, Walla Walla College (WWC) ranked in the top percentages of all universities in its category of the “America’s Best Colleges 2003” guidebook, published by “U.S.News & World Report.”

“We’re delighted that this national publication recognizes the quality of a Walla Walla College education,” says Jon Dybdahl, WWC president.

Walla Walla College appears in Tier 1, representing the top 25 percent of all universities in the 17 western states that offer a full range of undergraduate programs, some master’s level programs, and few, if any, doctoral programs.

Colleges are separated into categories, based on course offerings and geographic regions for comparison, and WWC is placed alongside 125 other universities. To be included, a college or university must be accredited and enroll more than 200 students.

Academic quality is judged in seven broad areas: academic reputation, retention and graduation of students, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, alumni giving, and the difference between the number of expected graduates and the actual results.

WWC’s highest score was in the area of alumni giving, where it ranked fifth—for the second year in a row. Approximately 29 percent of WWC graduates gave to their alma mater last year.
