The Edward F. Cross School of Engineering at Walla Walla College recently received re-accreditation from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), following an evaluation visit, Oct. 29-30, 2001, from the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC).
ABET has developed nationally recognized standards for engineering, technology, computing, and applied science education programs, in cooperation with more than 30 professional and technical societies.
Criteria for accreditation include demonstration that graduates have certain necessary knowledge and skills and that the institution is continually working to improve its program.
“We are pleased to offer an accredited program that provides a solid background in core engineering topics, as well as concentrations in the most popular engineering disciplines,” says Robert Wood, dean of the School of Engineering.
Walla Walla College is the only Seventh-day Adventist institution to offer an accredited degree in engineering—a Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree, with concentrations in civil, computer, electrical, and mechanical engineering. Walla Walla College first offered a major in engineering in 1947 and was first accredited in 1971.
