TORKELSEN — Ardis (Carle), 93; born Oct. 17, 1925, Austin, Minn.; died Oct. 26, 2018, Portland, Ore. Surviving: sons, Max C. Torkelsen II, retired North Pacific Union Conference president; Monte Torkelsen, Kettering (Ohio) Seventh-day Adventist Church administrative pastor; daughter, Myrna Smith, a retired public health nurse of Moscow, Idaho; 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Ardis' parents were Lloyd Carle, an electrical contractor, and Huldah Carle, a church school teacher.

Ardis graduated from Maplewood Academy in 1943 and received her registered nursing degree from Boulder Sanitarium in Colorado in 1947.

She married Max C. Torkelsen Sr., former President of the North Pacific Union Conference, on Feb. 8, 1947. They were married for 61 years.

She worked off and on for most of her life at various positions in hospital and office nursing including director of Central Services at Portland Adventist Hospital.
