Joseph Marion Stone

STONE — Joseph Marion, 91; born Aug. 27, 1925, Parma, Idaho; died Sept. 3, 2016, Portland, Ore. Surviving: wife, Jane Carol Stone; sons, Thomas E. Stone, Portland; Dr. Kenneth I. Stone, Burlington, Wash.; Donald W. Stone, Portland; daughter, Carolyn E. Reed, Portland; 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Joseph "Prof" Stone started his working career as Dean of Boys at Columbia Academy in Battle Ground, Wash., in 1950. His family moved to Sunnydale Academy in Centralia Missouri where he was principal from 1961–1963. They next moved to the Texas Conference serving as principal of various junior Academies. The family returned to the Portland, Ore., area in 1967 and he spent his final years of teaching at Tualatin Valley Jr. Academy in Hillsboro, Ore.;

Retiring in 1990 he quickly found himself actively involved in the YES scholarship program and working at our local Portland Adventist Community Services Center.
