Betty was born in Loma Linda, Calif., and lived her early life between California and Texas. Betty met and married her husband, E. Robert "Bob" Reynolds Jr., at La Sierra College in 1945. They pastored in the Central California Conference for four years then took a call to serve in Pakistan. They served there until 1966 when Bob was near fatally shot in the brain. They then retired to the United States where, through Betty's excellent home care, Bob lived as a quadriplegic for 39 and a half years.

Batty was living in the Summit Ridge Retirement community in Harrah, Okla., when in 2017 she was diagnosed with terminal colon cancer. She then moved in with her youngest son to live out her days. She was receiving palliative chemotherapy to improve the quality of her life, which it did. She died suddenly, and unexpectedly at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday April 7, with her son and daughter-in-law at her side.
