Erik Borges will serve as the next principal of Walla Walla Valley Academy, in College Place, Wash. Borges will be the ninth principal since it became Walla Walla Valley Academy in 1964 and the 32nd principal since its founding in 1886.
Borges has served as principal and athletic director at Highland View Academy in Hagerstown, Md., since 2016. During the eight years prior to that, he was principal and athletic director at Armona Union Academy in Armona, Calif. Borges earned his Bachelor of Science in elementary education with minors in physical education and special education and holds a Master of Business Administration from Utah's Western Governors University.
We look forward to welcoming Borges and his wife, Kirsten, along with their two children to Walla Walla Valley Academy and to our community.
We are grateful to Brian Harris for his seven years of leadership as WWVA's principal. His dedicated service to our students and families and his unwavering commitment to our mission has truly made an impact on hundreds of students, alumni and teachers. At the beginning of May, Harris transitioned to his new position as Upper Columbia Conference vice president for education while also finishing out the school year at WWVA.
Bob Nobuhara will be joining the WWVA science department for the 2019–2020 school year. Nobuhara most recently taught at Monterey Bay Academy (MBA) in La Selva Beach, Calif., for the past 12 years. While there he taught marine biology, anatomy and physiology, earth science, and health.
Nobuhara has a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and a biology minor from Union College in Lincoln, Neb. He earned his master’s degree in biomedical science from Colorado State University. Nobuhara is also the current Adventist Science Educator’s Association president.
Prior to his years at MBA, Nobuhara taught at Campion Academy in Loveland, Colo., from 1994 to 2007. He also taught at Guam Adventist Academy in Talofofo, Guam.
He and his wife, Ruth, will be moving to the Walla Walla Valley in early July. We are excited for the wealth of experience and expertise Nobuhara will bring to WWVA to prepare our students in the area of biological sciences.
We will miss Harris but wish him the best in his new position. We look forward to the impact Borges and Nobuhara will have at WWVA and are excited about the 2019–2020 school year.
