TCAS Students Take Learning on the Road

By Maurita Crew, Octubre 22, 2026

Trout Creek Adventist School students traveled across Montana for their Trailblazer Science Trip to Glendive, a hands-on learning adventure that connected science, history, faith and the beauty of God’s creation.

The trip gave students the opportunity to explore parts of Montana beyond the classroom walls. Along the way, students visited historic and scientific sites, including Pompey’s Pillar, Glendive Dinosaur and Fossil Museum, the Yellowstone River and Makoshika State Park. Each stop helped students connect what they have been learning in class with real places, real discoveries and real questions about the world around them.

At Glendive Dinosaur and Fossil Museum, students learned more about dinosaurs, fossils and how evidence from the past helps us better understand God’s creation. They also had the opportunity to search for agates along the Yellowstone River and experience the unique landscape of eastern Montana.

For many students, the trip helped them see Montana’s history and natural world in a new way.

“I learned about dinosaurs, how they left evidence of their existence on God’s earth and how they once roamed right here in eastern and western Montana,” said Geneva Schmidt, TCAS student. “I learned that what may look like nothing more than a chunk of sandstone could actually be a fossil from an animal that lived thousands of years ago.”

Amy Ficklin, another TCAS student, shared how much she enjoyed the experience. “I loved going to Glendive! My favorite parts were going to the dinosaur museum and Pompey Pillar,” Ficklin said. “When we went into the dinosaur museum, the presentation there made me feel like I wanted to know more about it!”

In addition to science, students also explored Montana history through the story of Lewis and Clark at Pompey’s Pillar. Seeing the famous landmark in person helped students better understand the journey of the Corps of Discovery and the role Montana played in that important chapter of American history.

The trip was also a time for students to grow together as classmates. They traveled, learned, explored, worshipped and reflected together throughout the week. The experience encouraged students to look more closely at nature, ask thoughtful questions and recognize God’s hand in the world around them.

TCAS is especially grateful to the many community members and sponsors who helped make this trip possible through the school’s Toothpick Bridge fundraiser. Because of that support, students were able to take part in a meaningful educational experience they will remember for years to come.

The Trailblazers returned home with new knowledge, wonderful memories and a deeper appreciation for Montana’s history, fossils, landscapes and the Creator who made it all.
