MCDOWELL — Alvin Lee, 96; born Feb. 2, 1921, Centralia, Wash.; died Oct. 10, 2017, Vancouver, Wash. Surviving: daughter, Judith Lee (McDowell) Shaner; 4 grandchildren and a step-grandchild, including granddaughter, Janette Elizabeth (Shaner) Rickman; and grandson, Bryan Elston Lee Shaner.
Preceded in death by wife, Julia Ethel (Bryan) McDowell.
Alvin L. McDowell was laid to rest with military honors. He served in the Navy as radioman first class furing WWII. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He worked as a civilian for NASA. He was quoted as saying that his finger prints were on the moon. After his retirement he and his wife, Julia, worked for Adventist World Radio for 26 years. He spoke weekly between the borders of California and Canada.
